More workers, bigger space for Cambridge Packaging

Steady growth was the norm for Cambridge Packaging during 2005.

Cambridge Packaging, which anchors the community’s prime growth area between
Cambridge and Byesville, recently added 33,750 square feet to its already large facility.

And over the past six months, the company has added around 10 new employees and “if there is the demand we will hire more," said company president Larry Knellinger.

The addition to the plant was done to satisfy the demand of new customers and the always-growing need for warehousing.

"There wasn’t any more room,” Knellinger said. “New customers have been added and, to meet their needs, new machinery was needed.”

Cambridge Packaging started in 1982 out of the basement of Peggy and the late Dick Knellinger’s home. They began what would soon become a large supplier of corrugated and manufactured boxes.

In 1986 the Knellingers rented an 8,000 square-foot building, bought some machinery and hired five employees.

By 1992, the company located to
Steubenville Avenue - and more space was still needed, prompting the company to add a 10,000-square-foot addition and it’s Box & Gift Shop. The shop provides UPS shipping, gift wrapping, packing supplies, gift boxes, shipping boxes and packing service.

In 2000, Cambridge Packaging opened its manufacturing center/warehouse at
60794 Southgate Road (Route 209 south).

With a new addition under way, Cambridge Packaging is planning an open house in January. The open house will give the public a chance to see how the local business has grown and evolved and to give everyone a reason to stop by the Box & Gift Shop.

The Box & Gift Shop carries RazzBearies, Gooseberry items, Boyd's Bears, a large assortment of OSU items, gift wrap, boxes, packaging materials and much more. The store allows customers to have their packages wrapped and shipped all in one place - FedEx, UPS and DHL all pick up from this location. They have been open for almost 13 years and are always adding new items.
